There is a path from just behind the Heron Cornmill at Beetham in Cumbria, albeit what used to be Westmorland. The heads uphill, between two rows of trees, into what is now Dallam Park, before reaching two large stones close to the ridge of the hill, from where the path goes through a gate, over a dyke, and towards Milnthorpe.
Dallam Park is historically interesting, and contains many examples of earthwork features, one of which is known as Castle Hill, and may date from the 5th to 11th centuries AD, according to information presented in the Historic England Research Records website, Castle Hill is given the ID of Hob Uid: 41636 on this website. However, there are other earthwork features in this area, including on the hill immediately due south of Castle Hill, the hill due south being the hill I mentioned in the first paragraph, with the rows of trees and the large stone near the ridge.
A few years ago I noticed another possible group of archaeological features in this area, namely that, along the path between the two rows of trees, are what appears to be a stone row, partially buried. The stone row is not completely straight, nor are the stones evenly placed. The stones also seem to be largely concealed within the soil of the hill. These rows of stones lead, and also point towards the large stones near where the path goes over the dyke. I have given this possible stone row the official name of Th' Bela Stëanraa, which is the local traditional dialect form of "The Bela Stone row", Bela being the name of the river that runs in the small valley below.

It occurred to me that this possible stone row could represent an alignment, with the row of stones possibly being a prehistoric stone row. Stone rows are a form of megalithic monument, consisting of large, sometimes giant “megalithic” stones, placed in rows, often in connection to other aligned stones, as a part of an ancient system that we do not understand. These sites date from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages.
The possibility of a stone row in Dallam Park is not confirmed, and I dearly hope in fact that this hill is not excavated or damaged by archaeologists in any way, for a reason that will soon become clear. The two larger stones further up may not be in exact alignment with the possible stone row, and they appear to be upon a pile of other stones, and look to have been moved. Whether this formation of stones is part of more recent landscaping in the park when the nearby dyke and wall were made, I am not sure, but it is also rather cairn-like, even if it may have been significantly altered over time.
The thing is, there appear to be strange relationships between ancient sites, and phenomena that might be described as otherworldly or supernatural. Numerous people mentioned on one of the local Facebook groups, reported encounters with some kind of presence in this area. And it seems to be this area in particular, where a giant shadowy figure has been reported by several people.
When I have been in this area myself, from the top of the hill past the two large stones, there is a certain area, where there is a very strong atmosphere, electrical, kind of like a thin zone. One tree in particular almost feels inhabited by a potent spiritual being.
In historic literature there are several other entities known from the Beetham - Milnthorpe area, one of which was known as the Cappel or Cowperthwaite. This is described as being a friendly entity, one of several in the area, the Cappel/Cowperthwaite specifically living around the River Bela, close to Milnthorpe and Beetham. This being is implied to be a shapeshifter, but taking the form of a dog most often. It is said to have helped people working about on the farm, including with sheep etc. This friendly entity is described in various places, including in Issue 112 Autumn/Winter 2023 of the Keer to Kent magazine, a copy of which I acquired at a local post office.

This area around the River Bela seems particularly potent for its otherworldly activity. Another example is a UFO report, described as JULY 1965, MILNTHORPE, CUMBRIA, U-K., A COUPLE: on the URECAT - UFO Related Entities Catalog website. Whilst the original writings on this event are somewhat obscure, I do feel like it is legit, or could be. In essence, the reports describe a couple, who were driving at night, and parked at a layby near Milnthorpe. The exact layby is not known.
The couple saw a dome-shaped red light, or a dome-shaped area of light, which itself is curious. Not a solid UFO but rather a dome of red light, which reminds me of the concept of atmospheric beasts in a sense. There were also three smaller beings present, who were all small humanoids, giving off a faint green light, with large eyes and with heads of a kind of turnip shape. Their noses were described as being like trunks.
This encounter sure is fascinating. It is a shame that the original research reports seem not to have been published, but it is extremely interesting. The couple implied that despite feeling scared at the time, that the entities did not feel evil or threatening.
I do wonder if the red dome of light was itself an entity, with the three smaller entities being like individual projections of, or aspects of a collective consciousness. This is of course speculative though. There are as I have discussed elsewhere, many other mysterious entities known from this area.
I hope that this blog post was an interesting read, it is dedicated to the friendly entities of the Milnthorpe-Beetham area, and to a respect towards all entities of the Milnthorpe area. May all who walk in this area also be protected and respectful towards these entities.
