An odd case of language in the North - language, time mirrors & Ymir's skull, publ. on the 31/08/2026

Some things are indeed very odd, one of which is the concept of the Kozyrev Mirror. Nikolai Aleksandrovich Kozyrev was a Russian scientist, who had some very interesting ideas about the nature of time. To test some of these ideas, devices, called Kozyrev Mirrors, were created. These are essentially concave mirrors in a spiral shape, which participants would walk into, the spiral/space they were in getting narrower as they went inward.

The idea was that these devices would collect “time energy”, enabling the participants inside to interface with this field of eternal energy, and to use it to send and receive information. Not only did participants reputedly use the mirrors to send symbols to each other, mentally, but they also reputedly saw unknown glowing symbols, with one woman also seeing symbols akin to hieroglyphs on some kind of purple background. 

Apparently, many of the glowing symbols seen were later identified as being connected to Sumerian cuneiform. It seems that Sumerian symbols were also then transmitted deliberately by participants, with the general belief being that these Kozyrev Mirrors were interacting with a kind of cosmic, geometric language. All of this information can be learned in the documentary Документальный фильм "Зеркала Козырева" (2011).

In the documentary it is also implied that there is a connection between how these “time mirrors” work and how human consciousness works, and it is even implied that cranial deformation, or people with elongated skulls in Peru for example, had skulls that specifically “focused” this cosmic energy or information in a particular way, with the idea being that the “skull” acts like a mirror of the cosmos, with the neural activity within our brains resembling the formations of stars. I had wondered similar ideas myself, but had not written about this through the perspective of seeing the skull as a mirror. 

I do not personally think that I believe in the effects of Kozyrev mirrors, and am unsure nowadays about the idea that elongated skulls channel energy or a magical cosmic language, but it is nevertheless an interesting language topic that pertains to the Arctic. Elongated skulls might instead have more to do with people trying to make themselves look more like Denisovans or other ancient hominids - this is another idea, although it is possible that there is truth in all these ideas. A researcher called Maria Wheatley has I believe done some research on this, and has suggested that some of the people with elongated skulls were attuned to hearing particular pitches and frequencies. 

This idea of someone staring into something and seeing a form of sacred language, is also found in Norse mythology, where Odin hangs himself on a tree, gazes down, and learns the secrets of the runes. 

Another interesting point is the way in which, in Norse mythology, the sky is described as having been created from Ymir’s Skull, Ymir being the first primordial giant in creation. So basically, the Norse saw the sky, cosmos, as inside the skull of a giant, with some Russian scientists suggesting that our human skulls “focus” that cosmic energy, making us like fractal expressions of the whole. How, utterly, fascinating.

Whilst I have mentioned aspects of these topics before, I have never discussed them in the detail like I have here or in this way, nor shall I again. I will briefly discuss some of this in an upcoming Silly Linguistics article, but with different details and discussing different things from those here, with less focus on the cosmic aspect, but with focus on other aspects, and much, much more which I have never previously discussed.
